On April 10–11, teenagers from the Focolare Movement gathered at Curryhills in Prosperous, Co. Kildare, for a sleepover focused on community, reflection and the spirituality of unity.
Building a United World
The event began with icebreakers and a video introduction to Youth for a United World, the branch of the movement founded by Chiara Lubich in 1985. The teens explored their shared mission: fulfilling the Gospel prayer, “That all may be one.”
Reflection and Recreation
The group transitioned into a serene meditative moment on the Divine Mercy, followed by a period of quiet reflection. The evening then shifted to high energy, as everyone enjoyed pizza and treats followed by a lively session of “Just Dance.”
Teamwork and Charity
Saturday began with morning prayer and a creative team-building challenge. In small groups, participants competed to build the tallest possible structures using only balloons and toilet paper. This lighthearted task served a deeper purpose: testing their ability to listen, trust one another’s ideas, and maintain charity and love—especially when their structures collapsed. While one team took the top prize, points were awarded across the board for kindness and mutual support.
Living Peace International
The group then focused on Living Peace International, a practical mission to promote peace in daily life. Together, they participated in “Time Out”—a global practice of stopping for a moment of prayer or silence for peace, knowing that others around the world were doing the same at that exact moment.
A Meaningful Conclusion
Fr. Colin celebrated a special Mass for the group giveing the space to offer up prayers, hopes and worries . After a delicious lunch, the teenagers engaged in creative workshops, coloring solidarity cards and decorating “Tiles for Peace” with messages of hope.
Before heading home, the group shared their reflections on the experience. The verdict was a resounding 10/10, with everyone leaving more convinced than ever of their goal to live for a united world.
Great fun for all!
