On June 21, 2025, in the stunning setting of the Dalahótel in Iceland, a special gathering took place: the Mariapolis — a “small city” built on mutual love and the living presence of Jesus among us. Organised by the Focolare Movement, it brought together people from different backgrounds and nations, united by a common desire: to live the Gospel in daily life and to build a community with Jesus truly at the centre.
Though scattered across various parts of the world, we came together with one heart and one hope. Over the course of the Mariapolis, we experienced light, joy, and true fraternity. With guests such as Valerio Gentile, manager of the international performing arts group Gen Rosso, and Patricia from Belfast, the atmosphere was one of simplicity, deep sharing, and communion.
In a country of just over 400,000 people, Iceland is home to individuals from 170 different nations — a vibrant mosaic of cultures. And yet, even here, unity is possible. We experienced firsthand how bonds of love and mutual listening can transcend language, cultural, and generational differences.
Set against the austere and awe-inspiring beauty of Icelandic nature, this Mariapolis was a reminder of God’s presence in creation and the harmony to which we are all called. We prayed together, shared stories of Gospel-lived experiences, and built friendships that go beyond borders.
Though our time together has come to an end, the fruits of this encounter remain alive in our hearts: a deeper sense of unity, a renewed hope, and a fresh commitment to live the spirituality of unity in our families, workplaces, communities, and society at large.
As the Focolare community in Iceland, we feel deeply connected to all of you, our friends around the world. With gratitude, we continue to walk together — always with Jesus at the heart of our journey.
